Long Island Iced Tea

Long Island Iced Teas are great for when you want to forget the last week, or possibly your name. This seemed like a perfect week to make them, so here’s the recipe.

Long Island Iced Tea

Ingredients

  • 0.5 oz white rum
  • 0.5 oz vodka
  • 0.5 oz gin
  • 0.5 oz tequila
  • 0.5 oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.66 oz simple syrup
  • splash of Cola (for color)

Preparation

The classic preparation is to mix all ingredients in a highball glass filled with ice, stirring gently, and topping off with the cola.

I prefer to pour all non-cola ingredients into a shaker filled with ice chips, shake vigorously for 10 seconds, and decant into a highball (or Collins) half filled with ice, then top with cola and stir gently. I feel creates better mixture of the lemon juice and results in a more consistent drink.

I don’t have any favorite variations, but I have tried it with varying levels of additional lemon juice and simple syrup. None were better than the original.

No need to get super fancy on the individual alcohols, since you won’t be remembering them anyway, but go for mid grade or above unless you like unpleasant flavors.
